Pride of the Past: Gay Liberation Front!

With all the world-wide Pride events taking place, it's easy to forget where and how it all began. The Stonewall Riots in NYC occurred during the year of my birth, 1969, when continued police harassment at The Stonewall gay bar in Greenwich Village prompted the community to fight back. In the days that followed, thousands of people came out to protest police brutality and inequality for gays. The Gay Liberation Front (GLF) formed just one month after the Stonewall riots in order to fight for justice and equality. The original pride march took place one year later to commemorate the event and to promote equality for LGBT people.  For a nice look at some historical photos and a timeline of key Pride historical events, check out NYC Pride. The photo above is an actual poster from one of the first GLF Pride marches. I love this photo! Happy Pride month, peeps!

People Recognizing Individual Diversity and Equality: And so it Begins.

Wear your colors loud and proud, peeps. I'm feeling like today is a good day to break out my rainbow tie dyes. May your summer be filled with pride.

As a little gift to start your pride celebrations right, head on over to The Ravens Crossing and find out what Alex's two dads are up to. I love those two. Some day, I'll have to write their story. Then, look around at the other stories on the site. There's all kinds of diversity and all kinds of fun.
