Congrats to Megan Jean and the KFB
Friday, August 10, 2012 at 8:00AM More good news from Floyd Fest: Every year, Floyd Fest hosts an Under the Radar (UtR) series, with new musicians you may not have heard of. These musicians get several time slots throughout the festival weekend. Everyone who attends the festival has the opportunity to vote on their favorites, and the winner receives a nice prize fee for performing, plus always needed new equipment of some kind. They also win the chance to play the main stage at the following year's festival. Usually, I have a hard time choosing my vote for UtR each year. But, this year, Megan Jean and the KFB had me from the moment I heard Megan's amazing voice.
They have a fantastic sound, one that isn't easy to describe and that's just fine with me. In fact, I like that they are a husband and wife duo who seem proud to be doing something different. During one of their performances, Megan gave an apt description of their sound. She said, "We'd be a punk band if we lived in the 20s." The first performance we stumbled upon was because we literally followed their sound to find out who was making it. There were something like 5 people in the audience that day. The next day, we arrived at a second show with all of our friends. The other five people brought some friends too, and each performance grew. Here's a video of their final performance. I was in the audience right behind the guy filming, so you get to experience it as I did. When Megan saw the reception and people began demanding an encore, she was literally in tears. I'm thrilled to find out they won the contest and will return to perform for us again next year. Congrats Megan and Klay!
Also, another reminder that The Ravens Crossing Season 2 has begun. Sharon & Alex have posted today. It's a fantastic young adult, science fiction adventure that's all free online, and the project is for a very good cause. I'm so proud to be a part of it. I hope you will check it out if you haven't yet, and please pass it along to your friends and family!
